Tuesday 5 Things: Toys!

5 Toys You LOVED as a Kid, and Still LOVE!

1.
Mr. Potato Head, how I LOVE thee! This photo is kinda scary, no? I guess they used to come with a lot more chokable pieces! This was one of the first toys that was a MUST-HAVE for Hannah. It continues to be a favorite in our household.

2.
Lite-Brite!! Didn't have one when I was a kid, but every time I went over to Jessie's house, it was the first toy I pleaded with her to play with----oh those little pieces. I totally lucked out and got one a few years ago...can't remember how it was that I scored it, probably Goodwill or something. So colorful and fabulous!

3.
These magnetic space/gyro wheely doo-dads. Could anything be cooler? Answer: No. They are delightful fun. Never had one of my own. Not quite sure why, but they're SOOO cool! I contemplate getting one for the girls, but then again I'd always do the playing!

4.
The smell. The softness. The vibrant color. Play-Doh, you are my hero!

5.
I bought a set of Tinker Toys for my 'nephew' Xander one year. They're just not that 'cool' anymore yo. Bah, so they're dangerous and those sticks get sharp when you break them in half and get them close to someone's eye----what's the big deal??!?! They're so super rad! I played with mine wayyyyy after it was appropriate. Sigh... Oh toys!

And YOU? What are the best toys?? The toys you wanted and never got? Or the toys you beloved more than you thought possible??

telephone line...give me a sign!

If you are looking for an AWFUL house painter, one that will take FOREVER, and will likely complain the whole time, you should call me! I excel in those areas, plus I’m freeeeee!

If you are wanting to rewatch many episodes of Buffy, Pushing Daisies, or the Harry Potter movies, you know like on my bed when my girls are ‘sleeping’ (and in this case ‘sleeping’ means there’s a VERY good chance they will climb on top of us and in fact be very much not-sleeping), then give me a ring.

If you are looking for someone to go karaoking with, and are SUPER excited when people come along that don’t sing a lot but have a lot of spunk, and in fact when they get up to sing their songs, they actually know NONE of the words, and are severely off key, then you should give me a call.

If you make some DELICIOUS food, and need some feedback on it, you MUST call me. Definitely call if it pleases you most when you give and give and give yummy homemade food, but actually never want any in return because you know…I never make anything!

Please note: I don’t *really* answer the phone…like EVER, so if you’re in need of any of the aforementioned, texting is your best bet. That way I can LOL all over you!

5 things

So my lil' friend V and I have been passing the time brilliantly at work lately. We have been making these questionnaires...list 5 movies that have scared you; 5 seemingly meaningless items that mean the world to you; 5 terms of endearment that make you throw up in your mouth when you hear them. You get the idea. I thought it'd be fun to start throwing out a fiver for this lil' ol' blog-a-roni and have all ya'all list yours. Yeah?

So today's ----

5 Movies/Shows You Love to Watch
When You're Sick

  1. Buffy - of course. At this point barely anything in the world is more comforting.
  2. When Harry Met Sally
  3. The Princess Bride - Even Fred Savage is sick!
  4. Pride & Prejudice - epics are crucial when you're sick. It's not like you're going anywhere. And oh...this one (yes, the one with Colin Firth!) is Fan-FLIPPING-tastic!
  5. Sex in the City - making you laugh, even if it's the 100th time you've seen the episode, is so healing!

And you??

i miss you

Friday's list - Foods and drinks I miss. Some of them still exist but are hard to find or are somehow different now. Some aren't sold around here. And some are just plain gone.... :( And yeah, feel free to notice that none of these foods are good for you! Teeheeeee!

  • I’m going to be honest right now. I learned about these on a hilarious Seinfeld episode. Newman has an obsession with them, and after eating them I knew why. They’re spongy cake with cinnamon strudel --- I mean it’s not like Jacob made them or anything but for something that you can buy in any convenient store on the East Coast, they’re hella good yo! The beloved Drake’s Cakes are nowhere to be found out here though. BOOO hooooo! :(

  • I know these are still around, but I am not insane to truly believe they have done something to the Cadbury Egg recipe in the last ten years. Do you remember when the yolky inside was runny like a Caramello, and sickening sweet and smooth? The last few years they have almost always been thick and gritty (and don't try to tell me I've just been purchasing old ones, or that they're too cold! I've been testing them out - hoping, praying down on my knees for the lil' eggs brought by a bunny would taste like they did in their heyday!) Sigh... :(

  • Oh hot-damn! It’s-It ice cream sandwiches are EVERYWHERE in California…or at least they were in the Bay Area. They’re these bizarre little oatmeal cookies with ice cream in the middle----often mint! Weird combination of flavors, but I am telling you --- they’re goooood! I found them at the Capitol Market on 14th Street, but they stopped carrying them. Super DUPER boooo!

  • I think they still make these drinks in some form or another, but definitely with some fake sweetener. They used to be SO great, in these fantastic bottles. Oh Canada!

  • I have discussed my love of Tato Skins for years. They’ve come back periodically in vending machines, and now TGIFridays makes some version of them, but they’re not exactly the same. Tato Skins in their original conception were GENIUS! Does anyone miss them like I do? The picture shows the Cheddar & Bacon flavor, which I would not have eaten before (although sounds goooood!). They did have an original flavor that was amazing!

  • The Jell-O Pop was a FAVORITE of my mom's, but you get the idea right? I mean, how bad could frozen pudding be, right? They quickly became a household staple back when they were more rectangular than the ones shown below. They were around for about five years or so and then were taken off the market. :( They came back but I can't seem to find them anymore. What are people thinking??!?!?

  • Koala Sparkling Juice is probably the thing I miss the most. Now that the Izze drinks are on the market, I should probably get over it, but...I drank the Koala juices all the freaking time in high school! LOVED their flavors! They had grapefruit & something, and kiwi lime, and orange mango. Made with REAL juice, and not too sweet, AND carbonated. DAMN! Is this not the perfect drink?? Where did you go????? Below is the only photo I could find of the bottles.
