So today's about feeling like YOU! -- The MOST you!
List the 5 Places You Feel Essentially Yourself - no being 'good', or trying to impress, or charades, smoke & mirrors, or fake accents, just lil' ol' you!
1. Dancing Dancing Dancing! 2. London 3. In an old greenhouse 4. Making art (preferably in an attic) 5. With Nicole (I may be romanticizing here because I haven't seen her in over three years, but there has always been something about Nicole that brings out the most ME-ness)

I have to convey to you in some magical way that will actually make you ***feel*** this ---- right here in my stomach, and the back of my throat is a burbling, tickling (hunger? nahhh) --- it's inspiration.
I felt it so strongly last night, and I decided to stage my own wondrous dream of my junk drawer, which is pretty much ripped off of Paho Mann's piece. Of course, dear Paho's drawer is the sanitized version of my gallimaufry collection of randomness. After taking pics, I started making some weird spring girl with a spare bead and a Play Mobil ponytail. Then I needed to touch my clippings, and move them around, and feel like I was creating something new. Are these new sewn creations missing something? Should I also be working on some stand alone collages?
Here's my drawer, and please, you'd be ridiculous to think that these things are just thrown in here. ;)
Sunday Jennifer & B & I went to see Eunice Parsons' show, and a film about her creative process at the Hallie Ford. She's a firecracker of spirit! Just thiking about being that dedicated and in love with making art when you're 92 just about does me in----I mean really, HOT DAMN!
It's all ruminating in there, and finally things are being made.
I am sentimental and attached to pretty much everything I have, which makes for quite a time to organize and tidy. Purging is a big deal for me, consequently, and when it comes to clothes, I am always pleased that we have our swaps. I just want my little ditties to go to a good home, you know like a beloved pet or something. There have been several times that I took photos of my clothes before getting rid of them. Sigh...
5 Pieces of Clothing You Have Been Remarkably Attached To
1. Red Velour V-Neck Sweater with Penguin - I *WILL* hunt for the photo with me wearing this beloved sweater. It was PRETTY rad! I had it when I was six-eight. There was an extended period of time that it was missing though, and I'm telling you --- NOTHING was more gratifying than its resurfacing! 2. Yellow Paisley Shirt - Thrift store find of the century! I wore it through high school, and I believe I took it to college. It was this interesting kind of rayon that isn't gross, you know the kind? It was probably a men's shirt, but I distinctly remember that it wasn't very long, so maybe it was a pajama shirt? The buttons looked like butterscotch candies. It was divine. When it fell apart, I was so distraught. And yes, I still have it. I must do something with it. 3. Hideous Red Dress with Scotty Dogs - I wore this dress for my first grade school photo. It's ridiculous! It has this little white laced collar, little dogs all over the dress, and one ENORMOUS dog on the bottom left of the dress. At the time though, I was enamored with it. I wore it all the time, and refused to let it be thrown away. In fact, I had this equally disturbing (yet adored) dancing bear (that was taller than me, and you put your hands and feet in its straps), and I decided that the bear should wear this dress, and it still did until maybe a couple weeks ago. The sad bear was falling apart so I threw it out. Yes, I did. Ha! The dress I kept for hilarity purposes mainly. 4. Ever-So-Amazing Silver Doc Martens - My first, and actually only pair of Docs. Got them my junior year in high school and they were pretty much my signature shoe/boot (they were 8-eyes) for 5 or so years. SILVERRRRR! I mean really, how cool is that? Of course I would have preferred them to have been glittery, but you know, they were extremely rad! When I moved out of Pamela's I took a photo of them. So so cherished, but in reality I would never wear them again. I must believe someone else is wearing them with love. 5. Red Dansko Clogs - The only item to still be worn of this list. I can't remember what the circumstances were that lead to me getting them. I think it had been a very long time since I had bought new shoes, and with Hannah, I was up on my feet a lot dancing her to sleep, at the park, etc. I missed having a decent amount of flair though, so when I saw these RED patent leather clogs, I knew I was in love ---- and still am. They're more than just shoes though, they're a part of me. At work, Bob simply calls me Red Shoes.
You?? What have been 5 articles of clothing/shoes that have meant something to you??
Clem for being such a big brave lil' sister on her first day without big BIG sister at school.
H! Her excitement about today just about killed me. MY excitement was successful. (I'm dead).
Making artwork again. I mean, I know I keep saying it, but there is something quite fresh and new about the pieces I'm working on --- and this renewed excitement. I am missing some piece of it though---there's still something that it needs.
P! Watching my ladies tomorrow night for some MUCHHHH needed adult time with Ryan!
RYANNN for going out with me. <3
Feeling loved, spreading love.
Overcaffeinated Fridays!
Adding new words to the Good Word List! Little by little, we'll get to 1500!
In honor of millions of children going back to school today (and the many that aren't going back :))
5 Memorable Field Trips
1. Golden Gate Park - Second grade - I am certain we did something educational on this field trip; it doesn't seem likely that we would have gone on a trip solely to visit a park. I feel like this could have been a Planetarium field trip, but I'm not quite sure. What's important was the PARK! See we lived in Hayward which is about an hour outside of San Francisco, so to drive in was a BIG deal. None of the other kids had been to the park before, but I had because my parents were separated at the time and my dad lived in SF, so we were always doing the coolest shit in the big city. So that day of the best field trip, I got to show the kids how to ride down this enormous concrete slide (you know the kind that will skin your knuckles if you're not careful). You had to find these trashy cardboard pieces to sit on so you could actually slide, otherwise you'd push off and your courdoroy or wool tights would stop you in your tracks.
Golden Gate Park is a dreamland for me. It's actually larger than Central Park! It smells of eucalyptus, and it's all lush and gorgeous. The playground itself was/(is??) a visual masterpiece. So many creative toys!
(this used to be there, but I think they took it down)
2. Exploratorium - it's OMSI on steroids. Just look at it. No anecdote necessary. It's a DREAMMM!
3. Mission Mill - 4th or 5th grade - My love affair with the Mill started pretty young. I've always been so taken with its smells, its machinery, its antiquity. Don't think many of the other kids would count it amongst their favorite outings though. Teehee!
4. Ice Skating - Junior High - I think this was one of a few 'Gold Pass' field trips. You had to be a nerd (ahem...make a 3.5 gpa or above) to be part of the 'Gold Pass' elite. We also went to some wave pool in Springfield, and maybe went to the movies or something. The trip I LOVED was when we went ice skating at the Lloyd Center Mall. There was always something amazing about riding a school bus on the freeway and writing ridiculous notes from the back seat to the cars trailing us (they must have LOVED us!). Also, we always stopped in Woodburn (for gas??) and we were allowed to go to any of the gazillion fast food places for a snack. WOW! That was pretty darn coooool!
So yeah, then the ice skating was just super cool because I had never been before and it's all charming with the lil' shoes, and the falling on your ass bit, and the holding on to the side, etc. Yeah, no way I was going to turn into some Tonya Harding (ew) disciple or anything. After the skating we were then allowed to roam the excitingly huge Portland mall for an hour or so unsupervised. Yeah...you should be jealous.
5. Speech & Debate Tournament – Freshman year. – I was new, and all the ‘cool’ kids were doing it (well, maybe they were more like the ‘freaks’ in Freaks & Geeks, but they were certainly my kind of cool). I remember that for some reason our Speech & Debate club had reached its pinnacle of attendance and our advisor Miss Prick (that couldn’t have been her name, but it was close to that…Miss Perk? Miss Prisk??) excitedly used a small school bus to drive us out to….who knows where we were going. What I DO remember about that fantastic day was that:
It was a Saturday, and while schooling on the weekends is usually quite lame, whether it was for theatre or for helping make something in Japanese Club, coming to school on the weekends was a way of life for me and it’s always so charming to be one of the few to roam the empty halls.
That Miss Prick/Peck/Pisk was rad enough that when we passed by a garage sale, she decided we should stop. I got a fantastic vintage shirt there. Sigh…
That I sat next to Erin, this girl that was quite the lil’ actress and I aspired to emulate her in every way. She was reading Tom Robbins’ Still Life with Woodpecker, which when I later read it to be just-like-her, I was engulfed in joy and deep deeeep love of the English language. Triple Sigh………
So yeah.....you?? Where did you go? What are your memorable field trips?
For some amazing moment in time, I found myself with some browsy computer time, and decided to give myself a few visual orgasms --- kinda true in an embarrassing way just prancing along looking at one FANTASTIC image to another, looking for exactly what speaks to me. I got myself on a Flickr tangent and found these following gems. Click on each of the photographer's page.
Haven't quite figured out how to make a lil' grid of images on here that you can click on the image independently... So instead of having a gorgeous little array of things that are inspiring to me, you'll just have to take me at my word----I'm inspired, yo!
Last night I finished organizing and cleaning my artspace. It does make me extremely hot to see it all in a USABLE way. I realized recently that it's more or less been out of commission for a year already. So for the space to be organized and utilizable, it really is inspiration itself. It's like there's this little bunch of moss in there that was created out of nothingness.
I vow to take pictures of some of the most delectable items in there for you!
Weekend: badminton, school clothes shopping, and MAKING STUFFFFF!
